“Take an ethics class at U of T and get work experience while at school but make sure to not let it interfere with your studies. Don’t focus on just building your resume, focus on clarifying your values as a person and reflect deeply on how you can express those values in your working life.”

“Take time to relax, de-stress and remember that it is okay to take breaks! Get involved!
The advantage of attending such a large university is that there is a vast array of opportunities to get involved on campus or with the larger community. “

“Start exploring your options early – there are so many jobs out there that you haven’t realized existed or are options to you. Build genuine connections and ask questions – there is something to learn from everyone, especially if they have different career goals than you.“

“It’s true that as a young undergraduate student, there’s ample room for experimentation. However, it’s more advisable to experiment purposefully. You could think that if I’m proficient in mathematics, then I could spend a summer doing research, and if academia doesn’t suit me, perhaps I could combine the math skill with a few courses in computer science to be a specialist in artificial intelligence (deep learning). Do you see how the experimentation is based on an assessment of your strength, and arranged with a fail-safe plan? I haven’t had much planning until I started working, but I know had I planned properly, I could have gone further in my career. Planning and experimenting are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they are complementary to each other.”
