“All of my past experiences put me in a really good position to enter a marketing/design role in the philanthropic sector – which is where I wanted to be, and where I am right now. I didn’t know that this was what I wanted to do all along; I just looked for a sense of satisfaction with both my work and the people I surrounded myself with.

I think the most important thing when you’re young is to not be afraid to try things out, but keep in mind that you want to learn something from each experience – even if all you learn is that something isn’t for you.”

“I would advise myself to take care of myself! It’s really easy to get caught up with school and extracurricular activities and forget about self-care. I would also tell myself to not overwork and prioritize my commitments better during my undergraduate studies. U of T is a fantastic school with innumerable opportunities, so make use of those opportunities while also enjoying your time!”

“Be sure to live a balanced life: make time for your coursework, independent learning (reading, talking to people with different life experiences), exercise, relationships (particularly family and friends, regardless of whether you have a romantic one), and fun. Your time at University is one of the most important periods of personal growth that you will experience, so be sure to challenge yourself. Always strive to be happy, to help others, and to improve.”

Stay busy and get involved as much as you can with groups, clubs, athletics and use this time to explore whatever you are interested in! Go the extra mile to get to know your professors and TAs – they can mentor and help you figure out what direction you want to go in. Before signing up for classes, do you research, go talk to people who are already taking or have taken the program/course, talk to the professors and sit in on the class beforehand.
